How much does an electric forklift cost?
A new 5,000 lb electric sit-down forklift typically runs $32,000 to $45,000 including battery and charger, depending on mast height, tires, and attachments. Lithium-ion packages add roughly $6,000 to $12,000 up front but usually pay back within two to three years through faster charging and eliminated battery changes. Used electric forklifts start around $12,000.
How long does an electric forklift battery last?
A lead-acid forklift battery typically lasts 1,200 to 1,500 charge cycles, or about five years in single-shift use, when watered and equalized on schedule. Lithium-ion packs are rated for 3,000+ cycles and commonly last eight to ten years with no watering, no equalizing, and no capacity fade from opportunity charging.
Can an electric forklift work outside?
Yes, on paved or hard-packed surfaces and in light-to-moderate weather. Hyundai's B-X high-voltage models are sealed and rated for outdoor yard duty. For deep mud, gravel, or heavy grades, a pneumatic-tire diesel or LP truck is still the better tool.
Is an electric forklift cheaper than propane?
Over a five-year total cost of ownership, almost always. Energy runs about one-third the cost of LP, and there is no fuel handling, no engine oil, no filters, no spark plugs, and no emissions testing. The trade-off is a higher purchase price and the need for charging infrastructure.
How long does it take to charge an electric forklift?
Conventional lead-acid charging takes about eight hours plus an eight-hour cool-down, which is why multi-shift operations keep spare batteries. Lithium-ion fast charging brings a pack to full in one to two hours and supports opportunity charging during breaks, so most fleets can drop to one battery per truck.
